Current Lab Members
Jun Yang, Ph.D.
Professor, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences
Adjunct Associate Professor, Neurobiology and Anatomy
Member, Molecular Biology Program
Member, Neuroscience Program
jun.yang@hsc.utah.edu
Jun obtained her B.S. degree from the Biology Department at Nankai University in China. After working in the industry for 7 years, she came to the United States and started her Ph.D. study at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She got her Ph.D. degree in Dr. R. Thomas Zoeller's laboratory, where she studied the gene expression changes in fetal alcohol syndrome using rat. Then, she joined the Berman-Gund laboratory for the Study of Retinal Degenerations at Harvard Medical School under the supervision of Dr. Tiansen Li. In 2008, Jun established her own laboratory as an assistant professor at the John A Moran Eye Center, University of Utah. In 2020, she was promoted to Professor with tenure.
Junhuang Zou, Ph.D.
Senior Lab Specialist
junhuang.zou@utah.edu
Junhuang graduated with his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Yangzhou University, China. Later on, he earned his Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Genetics and Development Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Junhuang joined the Yang laboratory in 2009. His research interests are broad and related with both retinal degeneration and hearing loss.
Anna M. Clark, Ph.D.
Senior Lab Specialist
anna.clark@hsc.utah.edu
Anna received her MS in genetics from University of Wroclaw, Poland and PhD in molecular genetics from the Ohio State University. She has worked at the University of Utah since 1999 and joined the Moran Eye Center in 2014 where she applies her molecular biology skills in helping graduate and undergraduate students with their research projects. She is also responsible for user training and maintenance of certain equipment shared by the department. For the last two years in Dr. Yang’s lab, Anna has been a part of a team studying the function of an unknown protein, assocaited with retinal degeneration. She also oversees day to day lab activities, including preparation of solutions and ordering of reagents.
Haoran Yu, B.S.
Graduate Student
haoran.yu@hci.utah.edu
Haoran graduated from the Chu Kochen Honors College at Zhejiang University with a BS degree in Biology in 2023. He joined our laboratory in August 2024 as a PhD graduate candidate. His research will focus on photoreceptor cell biology and disease mechanisms underlying inherited retinal degeneration.
